Rawalpindi Commissioner Confesses to Electoral Fraud, Surrenders to Police, and Reveals Suicide Attempt
Commissioner Rawalpindi resigns over election rigging, demands himself to be hanged. Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha has announced his resignation, admitting to electoral malpractice during the elections.
Commissioner Chatha, addressing a press conference at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, confessed to his involvement in electoral fraud in the Rawalpindi division and surrendered himself to the police, stating that he is relieving himself of the burden of his conscience. He also revealed an attempted suicide during the morning prayers.
Chatha stated, ‘We manipulated the results by altering the lead of defeated candidates to 50,000 from 70,000, and those who won with a lead of 70,000 were made to lose. I am responsible for the injustice in the Rawalpindi division, and I should be hanged at Rawalpindi Kachari Chowk.’
He further added, ‘I accept responsibility for electoral malpractice in the Rawalpindi division. The Chief Election Commissioner and Chief Justice should also be hanged with me, as they are equally complicit in this crime.’

Chatha also asked for general forgiveness for his sins, claiming he was under no pressure and should be arrested immediately. He stated, ‘The military ensured fair elections, and there is no need for re-elections. If Form 45 is collected again, the situation will become clear.’
This confession by Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha sheds light on the extent of electoral malpractice and corruption in the region and emphasizes the importance of accountability and transparency in the electoral process.
ECP denies rigging allegations by commissioner Rawalpindi
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has firmly denied the accusations made by Commissioner Rawalpindi, stating that no directives were issued to him to rig elections.
Earlier, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatta admitting to election rigging in Rawalpidi division had resigned from his post.
The ECP spokesperson clarified that no higher authority instructed the commissioner to manipulate votes or interfere with the electoral process.
Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized that divisional commissioners are not appointed as District Returning Officers (DROs), Returning Officers (ROs), or presiding officers, casting doubt on Commissioner Rawalpindi’s claims.
The ECP has assured that the matter will be subject to a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure the integrity of the electoral system.
