Commonwealth Games: Nooh Dastagir wins first gold medal for Pakistan. Weightlifter Muhammad Nooh Dastagir Butt won the first gold medal for Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in men s +109kg event in Birmingham on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old set a new Games record of 173kg in the snatch event after lifting 170kg in his first attempt. In Clean and Jerk, he lifted 232kg, totaling 405kg to claim gold for Pakistan.
It should be mentioned here Nooh Dastagir had won a bronze medal in Commonwealth Games 2018.
Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Colonel (retd) Mohammad Asif Zaman announced cash prizes for weightlifter Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt, who won gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, and bronze-medalist judoka Shah Hussain.

Zaman announced that the Rs5,000,000 cash award would be given to the gold-medalist Nooh while Shah would receive Rs1,000,000 for the remarkable feat by the two athletes in the event.
Weightlifter Nooh created history as he set the new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 405kgs and secured the first gold for Pakistan in the ongoing global event.
Whereas, judo player Hussain outclassed his South African opponent to clinch a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that is currently taking place in Birmingham, England, from 28 July to 8 August 2022.
Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017, marking England’s third time hosting the Commonwealth Games after London 1934 and Manchester 2002, and the 7th Games in the United Kingdom after London and Manchester, Cardiff 1958, Edinburgh 1970 and 1986, and Glasgow 2014.
