Pakistan Men Cricket Team is through to the Asian Games semi-finals. They did not need to bowl or bat as the rain did all the deciding.

Tournament rules had a clear answer for such a case. If a knockout game ends with no result, the higher ranked side moves ahead. Rankings are taken from the ICC’s official T20I list. Pakistan sit well above Hong Kong on that list. So the match officials had no choice to make.
Pakistan were one of four seeded teams in this event. India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were the other three. All four skipped the group stage and entered directly at the quarter-final. Hong Kong took a harder road to get here. They played in Group B alongside Malaysia and Oman.

These two teams have met twice before in T20 cricket. Pakistan won both games comfortably. The first meeting came at the 2022 Asia Cup in Sharjah. Pakistan posted 193 and then bowled Hong Kong out for only 38. That was a huge win by 155 runs.
Their second clash happened at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Pakistan struggled early that day and slipped to 54 for five. Aamer Jamal then rescued the innings with a quick 41. Pakistan finished with 160 and won by 68 runs. Hong Kong were bowled out for just 92.
So this would have been their third meeting. Many fans hoped to see a closer fight this time. Hong Kong had improved a lot in recent seasons.
What Comes Next for Pakistan
Pakistan now wait for their semi-final opponent. They will face the winner of Bangladesh versus Malaysia. That game takes place on Tuesday, and the semi-final follows on Thursday. Pakistan can not afford to feel too relaxed because a win without playing is not the same as match practice.
Rain remains the biggest worry for everyone at this event. Forecasts suggested more showers around Nisshin this week. Another washout could again lean on the rankings rule. For Pakistan, that rule has worked nicely so far. Their higher position has been a real advantage here.
Lower ranked sides like Malaysia would feel the risk more sharply. Still, cricket fans want to see the sport itself decide winners. Nobody enjoys a semi-final spot won by a rulebook. For Hong Kong, the ending felt weird as they fought hard through a tricky group to reach this point.
Hong kong’s journey ended without one delivery in the biggest game. Pakistan now moves on with confidence and a strong squad. Now they must prove they deserve their semi-final place on the field.
