Namibia T20I Tri-Series finally had its moment of truth on Friday. South Africa and Namibia clashed in today’s match as it decided who would be going in the finals. South Africa won the match and booked the final spot.
It turned into one of the tightest and most dramatic games of the tournament. South Africa edged it by just 11 runs.
A Teenager Rewrites the Record Books
Once again, all eyes were on 20 year old opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius. He had already impressed fans with a near century earlier in the series. This time, there was no falling short. Pretorius smashed his way to a brilliant 101 not out off just 53 balls.
He reached his century in only 52 deliveries, batting with real freedom. The knock instantly became the fastest hundred of the entire tournament. More impressively, it made history on a much bigger stage.
Pretorius became the youngest batter from any full member nation to score a T20I century.
That is a remarkable achievement for someone still finding his feet at international level and at this young age. Namibia’s bowlers simply had no answer for him on the day.
Pretorius did not do it entirely alone he had a partner who helped. Fellow batter Connor Esterhuizen played a huge supporting role at the other end. Esterhuizen top-scored on the tournament’s official impact rankings for this match.
He finished with an impact score of 121.22 points which are the highest of the day. His steady start allowed Pretorius to accelerate later without early pressure. Together the pair powered South Africa to a commanding total of 228 for 4. They were the key players of the South African side and hence proved themselves.
Pretorius was also named Player of the Match for his innings. Speaking afterward, he kept his reaction simple and grounded. “Feels pretty good – we needed victory and got it,” Pretorius said. He also credited Esterhuizen for setting up the platform early in the innings. According to Pretorius, that partnership made his own job considerably easier later on.
Namibia’s Brave but Falling Chase
Namibia did not fold under pressure. They had to chase 229 for victory. They fought hard, keeping the required rate within reach for long periods. Opening batter Louren Steenkamp played a fine hand, scoring 61 off 44 balls. Jan Frylinck also stood firm finishing unbeaten on 58.
Late in the innings, Ruben Trumpelmann added a fiery cameo of his own. He struck 21 runs off just 10 balls before finally being dismissed.
Despite that late push, Namibia fell severely short. They finished on 217 for 3, just 11 runs shy of the target. It was heartbreak for the home crowd inside Namibia Cricket Ground.
For Namibia, this defeat carries painful consequences beyond just one match. The result confirms their elimination from the tri-series altogether. With this loss, the second finalist spot goes to Zimbabwe instead.
That means Sunday’s final will now be contested between South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Beyond the result, this match will be remembered for individual brilliance. Pretorius now holds a genuine record among all full-member international teams.
His strike rate throughout the innings stayed above 190 for long stretches. Few young players anywhere in world cricket are in this kind of form right now. Esterhuizen’s contribution proved just as vital statistically. His impact rating actually topped the charts ahead of the centurion himself.
Now the attention is shifted entirely to the tri-series final in Windhoek. South Africa will enter as strong winners after their recent form. Zimbabwe also have shown they can trouble bigger sides on their day.
Their bowlers in particular will look to expose any gaps in South Africa’s batting.
