A Superstar Returns to Television
Mahira Khan has been trending again, and this time for a big reason. After three years away from television, she is finally coming back. Her return is not a quiet one either. It comes packaged with one of the most talked about pairings in Pakistani drama history. Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali are set to be doing this project together.
Fans have waited a long time for this moment from Mahira Khan. Now, that wait is almost over.
The Big Comeback: Mitti De Baway
The project that is causing all this buzz is called Mitti De Baway. It marks Mahira Khan’s first ever full drama alongside actor Wahaj Ali.
The two had already given fans a taste of their chemistry earlier this year. A viral commercial showed them dancing together as former lovers reuniting at a wedding. That short clip was enough to spark massive demand for a real project.
Green Entertainment clearly listened, and the result is this new drama. Written by Faiza Iftikhar and directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain, the show looks intense.
Mahira plays Billo, a woman who turns from lovestruck to cold and spiritual. Wahaj plays Baala, her old love interest, now returning after time in jail. He comes back changed, both physically and emotionally, ready for confrontation.
The trailer suggests a story full of romance, betrayal, and silent revenge. It hints at a classic lovers turned enemies turned lovers angle that fans already adore. An official release date has not been confirmed yet. But the industry buzz suggests the drama could premiere sometime this autumn.
Not Just One Project: A Busy Schedule of Events
Mitti De Baway is not the only thing keeping Mahira busy these days. Her schedule right now looks unusually full. She is also part of Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo. This marks Pakistan’s very first original series made for Netflix.

The show reunites her with Fawad Khan, her old Humsafar co star and partner. Their pairing alone has already created massive excitement among longtime fans.
Based on a beloved novel by Farhat Ishtiaq, the story spans years of family drama. It was shot across Pakistan, Italy, and the United Kingdom for added scale. The series also features a long list of other big names. Sanam Saeed, Hania Aamir, Maya Ali, and Ahad Raza Mir are all part of it.
Mahira is also doing a film besides these television projects. She reunited with Fahad Mustafa for a film.
Their movie is called Aag Lage Basti Mein and it marks their first collaboration in years.
From VJ to National Icon Her Journey So Far
Mahira did not start out as an actress at all. She began her career as a video jockey on MTV Pakistan back in 2006 where she hosted popular music live show daily. Her charm and her decency on camera quickly made her a familiar face among young viewers.
Her first film role came in 2011, in Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol. It was the debut film of both Mahira and Atif Aslam. She played a small part, but it opened the right doors for her.
The Role Everyone Still Remembers
Ask any Pakistani drama fan about Mahira Khan’s best work, and one name comes up first. That name is Khirad from the legendary drama Humsafar. It was released back in 2011, Humsafar turned into a cultural phenomenon almost overnight.
Mahira played a simple, educated woman pushed into a marriage of convenience. Opposite her was Fawad Khan, playing the charming and complicated Ashar. Their on screen chemistry became the stuff of television legend.
The show did not just got famous in Pakistan. It became hugely popular across India too. Mahira won the Lux Style Award for Best Television Actress for the role.
After Humsafar, she kept on building impressive characters and today her work is appreciated all across the globe. Shehr-e-Zaat, Sadqay Tumhare, and Bin Roye all added new layers to her career.
Making It Big on the Big Screen
Television success eventually led Mahira Khan into films as well and not just in Pakistani films but abroad too. Her Bollywood debut came in 2017, opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.
In Pakistan she continued delivering strong performances in the lollywood cinema. Verna, a film about women’s rights, sparked serious conversations across the country.
In 2022, she starred in The Legend of Maula Jatt, which was a massive box office hit. The film became one of the highest grossing Pakistani movies ever made.
Mahira a Living Legend
More than a decade after Humsafar, Mahira Khan still remains one of Pakistan’s biggest stars. Few actresses can pull audiences toward television and cinema the way she does.
Her upcoming projects show she is not slowing down anytime soon. If anything, this might be one of her busiest years yet. Between a Netflix debut, a heavyweight television pairing, and a big film reunion, fans have plenty to look forward to.
For now, all eyes remain on Mitti De Baway and its long awaited premiere.
