Ayat Noor was just five years old when she went missing. She left her home in Pathan Colony Haripur, to play outside. It was August 10 when she never returned. Her father Shafiq, works as a bakery worker in the area.
He reported her disappearance to police the same day. Officers registered a kidnapping case under Sections 361 and 364-A that specifically cover child abduction offences. A formal search and investigation began almost immediately after that.
A Father’s Desperate Plea Reaches Thousands
As the days passed there were no answers with anyone, her father Shafiq grew increasingly desperate. He recorded an emotional video appeal that spread across the social media quickly. In it he said that fourteen days had passed since Ayat vanished and there is no clue of her.
He explained he had approached every possible forum for help. He described himself as a poor man with limited resources. Still, he pleaded with strangers to help him find his daughter. He said this experience had left him unable to sleep at night.
Police Widen the Search Across Haripur
Authorities did not treat this as a small local matter because of the social pressure. More than 400 police officers eventually joined the search effort. Staff from TMA and WASA departments also assisted the operation. Teams searched for Ayat in drains, sewerage lines, and dense vegetation nearby.
Search parties covered the University of Haripur and surrounding areas closely. They also checked the fertilizer factory grounds and Pathan Colony repeatedly. Vacant plots and deserted locations across the city were searched too.
A Special Investigation Team including female officers was made led the case.
CCTV Footage Becomes the Investigation’s Turning Point
Investigators eventually reviewed hours of CCTV footage from the area that shocked everyone in the room. That footage helped police identify five suspects linked to the case. Officers arrested three suspects fairly early in the process. Two more remained at large as raids continued elsewhere.
One suspect who is identified as Usman, confessed before a magistrate. He admitted to abducting and sexually assaulting the child, police said. A judge formally recorded his statement during court proceedings later. Two other suspects Qasim and Talha, appeared before the court too.
Because of his young age, Talha was sent to judicial remand. Qasim was instead handed to police on physical remand. Police later tracked down and arrested a fourth suspect who is named Hasan Khan.
Who Found Her: A Well Near a Warehouse
Hasan Khan’s arrest proved to be the investigation’s main breakthrough moment. The police had already identified him and acting on his identification, police found a disused well nearby. It was inside a vacant plot near Link Road, University Road.
Police recovered Ayat Noor’s body from that well on late Monday night. Rescue 1122 personnel assisted officers throughout the difficult recovery operation.
The Haripur District Police Officer personally supervised the entire process. Ayat Noor’s body was moved to a trauma center for examination.
Doctors conducted a post-mortem to confirm the exact cause of death. Officials said the examination would also verify the alleged abuse. Suspects reportedly confessed to assaulting the child before disposing of her body.
A City Grieves and Demands Justice
News of the recovery spread through Haripur and even across Pakistan within hours. Thousands of people gathered for her funeral prayer at the Khad Factory ground. Witnesses described the atmosphere that day as deeply sad.
Grief soon turned into public anger across the country. Residents placed her body on GT Road in protest. The whole country demands swift justice and harsher punishment for those responsible.
These cases have become so common that it is now time that the government takes some strict laws against the assaulters and murderers. These abusers should be made a symbol of warning, so that no one ever thinks to do anything like this again.
Officials Respond as Case Draws Wider Attention
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi took notice of the case. He expressed sorrow and strongly condemned the alleged crime publicly. The Chief Minister ordered a Special Investigation Team be formed immediately.
Haripur’s District Police Officer, Shafiullah Gandapur, addressed reporters at a press conference. He said cases like this affect far more than one family. He called child abduction a concern for society as a whole.
Officials said most of the arrested suspects were under sixteen years old. All reportedly lived within the same colony as the victim. Investigators say the case remains open as legal proceedings continue.
Ayat Noor’s case has renewed public debate on child protection nationwide. Recent figures show child and women abuse cases in Pakistan rising in recent years. For Haripur and Ayat’s family, this tragedy remains deeply and painfully personal.
