RAWALPINDI – The Punjab Wildlife Department recently seized an Illegal Lion Found in Car in Rawalpindi, found locked inside a parked vehicle near Chak Beli Road. Officials acted swiftly after spotting the animal being transported without legal authorization.
The lion’s owner, Fakhar Abbas, failed to produce a valid wildlife license when questioned by authorities. According to initial reports, he had planned to use the animal in a local circus performance.
Lion Shifted to Safe Facility; Owner Fined
After rescuing the lion, the department moved it to a secure wildlife facility. Officials confirmed the animal is now under proper care and will be monitored closely.
Meanwhile, the owner was fined Rs. 60,000 for violating Punjab’s wildlife regulations. These laws strictly prohibit the keeping or transportation of dangerous wild animals without official permits.
“This type of behavior puts both people and animals at risk,” said a Punjab Wildlife Department spokesperson. “Our duty is to prevent such incidents and ensure legal compliance.”
Crackdown Triggered by Lahore Lion Attack
This action comes as part of a broader province-wide crackdown. The government launched the operation following a recent lion attack in Lahore, which caused widespread concern across Punjab.
Since then, wildlife officials have ramped up inspections of private properties and vehicles. As a result, they have confiscated 18 lions from illegal captivity in various areas.
Officials Urge Public to Follow Wildlife Laws
The department continues to urge citizens not to keep wild animals at home or on private land without legal permission. They emphasized that wild animals like lions pose serious threats—not just to owners, but to surrounding communities.
Officials also asked the public to report any illegal wildlife activity. “We rely on public support. Reporting these cases helps us act faster and protect both human lives and endangered species,” the official added.

A Step Toward Safer Communities
