India Clinches Third Champions Trophy Title with Four-Wicket Victory Over New Zealand. India has secured its third ICC Champions Trophy title, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing 252, the Men in Blue reached the target in the 49th over, thanks to captain Rohit Sharma’s commanding 76 and Shreyas Iyer’s crucial 48.
Opting to bat first, New Zealand posted 251/7 in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53 not out) were the standout performers, guiding the Kiwis to a competitive total.
India’s chase
India got off to a flying start, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting up a 105-run opening stand. However, Gill departed after scoring 31, followed by Virat Kohli’s rare failure, managing just one run.
Despite the setbacks, Rohit held firm, scoring a match-defining 76 off 83 balls, including three sixes and seven fours. Shreyas Iyer contributed 48 off 62, while Axar Patel (29) and Hardik Pandya (18) chipped in.
With the match nearing its conclusion, KL Rahul (34 off 33 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (not out) finished the job, with Jadeja striking the winning shot on the last ball of the 49th over.
For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell picked up two wickets each, while Kyle Jamieson and Rachin Ravindra claimed one apiece.
With this victory, India claimed its third Champions Trophy title, having previously won in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013.
New Zealand’s batting
Earlier, New Zealand set India a target of 252 runs in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Batting first after winning the toss at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Kiwis managed to put up a total of 251 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
India made early inroads into New Zealand’s batting lineup, dismissing three key players within the first 75 runs.
The first breakthrough came at 57 runs when Will Young, scoring 15, fell victim to Varun Chakravarthy. Soon after, opener Rachin Ravindra was trapped by Kuldeep Yadav at 69.
The Indian spinner struck again at 75, removing New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson.

Speaking after the toss, Santner expressed confidence in his team’s ability to put up a competitive total. He acknowledged the overwhelming presence of Indian supporters in the stands and noted that the pitch conditions resembled those of their previous match against India.
It is worth noting that India and New Zealand faced each other in a Champions Trophy final after 25 years.
The last time they met in the title clash was in the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy final in Nairobi, where New Zealand defeated India by four wickets, thanks to Chris Cairns’ brilliant century.
