Punjab students to get Rs7bn scholarships across province. The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and several private universities signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the Rs 7 billion CM Honahar Scholarship Program 2024 for undergraduate students at Arfa Karim Tower.
On this occasion, Minister of School Education of Punjab Rana Sikandar Hayat, Chairman of PHEC Dr. Shahid Munir, Secretary of Higher Education Department (HED) Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Rectors of seven top universities of Pakistan, representatives of private universities including Dr. Ali Cheema, Dr. Aftab Ahmed Maroof, Sardar Aminullah Khan, Dr. Usman and Dr. Asad Hussain attended the MoU signing ceremony.
Under this new initiative, scholarships worth 7 billion rupees will be given to deserving and talented students across Punjab this year. The seven-year scheme is supported by a total budget of Rs 131 billion. The budget will see a 10 percent increase each year to ensure continued financial support for students.
This program will benefit 30,000 students of Punjab and provide them opportunities to pursue higher education in prestigious institutions.
Earlier, these scholarships were provided only to students of government colleges and universities, but now students at private universities have also been included in this program. Institutions like Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, LUMS, NAST, FAST, IBA Karachi, Aga Khan University, Karachi and COMSATS are among the beneficiaries.
As part of program implementation, universities will be responsible for screening and selecting deserving students, while PHEC will oversee program monitoring and evaluation.

To ensure wide awareness and reach, the scholarship scheme will be widely advertised through various channels, all public sector universities, social media, and electronic boards in collaboration with the Punjab Horticulture Authority.
Detailed information will be made available on HED, PHEC and HEC websites as well as admission portals of respective institutions.
The application process for the scholarship will be facilitated through a dedicated online portal organized by the Punjab Information Technology Board. The details of the students will be verified by the concerned institutions, while the PHEC will review the socio-economic parameters to verify the monthly family income of the applicants, ensuring that only those whose families are eligible will be eligible. Income less than Rs 300,000 per month.
The final merit list of successful applicants will be prepared by PHEC, Scholarships will be awarded by the Award Committee.
The School Education Minister said that financial assistance will be provided to deserving students to ensure access to quality education irrespective of their financial background.
He emphasized that meritorious students with Punjab domicile will be given scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies.
