The West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) will likely reject Pakistan Cricket Board’s request to drop ODIs and add more T20Is for the Pakistan Caribbean tour. PCB wants to scrap the three-match ODI series set for August and add extra T20Is to better prepare for upcoming white-ball events like the 2025 Asia Cup and 2026 T20 World Cup.
Insiders say PCB officials have urged CWI to cut the ODIs and expand the T20I leg to five or six games. They believe this tweak will sharpen the team’s short-format skills. They made this proposal earlier this month to match their shift toward T20 cricket.
Currently, the tour itinerary includes:
- 3 T20Is (starting July 31 in Florida)
- 3 ODIs (on Aug 8, 10, 12 in the Caribbean)
However, the West Indies board needs to protect broadcast deals and venue contracts tied to the ODI games. They also want to offer fans a full mix of formats. That’s why they look set to reject Pakistan’s idea.
Meanwhile, both sides still talk behind closed doors, but sources say the chances of dropping ODIs look slim. The PCB plans to announce the squad for this tour alongside the Bangladesh series squad to make logistics smoother.
Fans should expect the original plan unless the boards reach a last-minute deal. If nothing changes, Pakistan’s squad will play three T20Is and three ODIs as planned. CWI wants to stick to the balanced format to please all stakeholders.
An official update will come soon. Players, selectors, and broadcasters will adjust their plans once both boards confirm the final tour structure.
