Nadeem, who hails from a poor family in a rural town in the central Pakistani region of Khanewal, created history by setting a new Games record and ending his country’s 32-year Olympic medal drought.
He was expected to face stiff competition from other athletes, particularly India’s defending champion Neeraj Chopra, but put a lot of pressure on him with his record-breaking throw in the second attempt.
