The sad news was confirmed by Udhas’ daughter, Nayaab Udhas, who shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram, announcing the demise of the legendary Padmashri awardee on February 26. The statement conveyed the family’s profound sorrow over the loss.
Udhas had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness and was receiving medical care at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where he breathed his last.
Throughout his illustrious career, Udhas captivated audiences with his soul-stirring ghazals, including timeless classics like “Chitthi Aayi Hai,” “Aur Aahista Kijiye Baatein,” “Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera,” and “Na Kajre Ki Dhar.”
Born on May 17, 1951, in Gujarat, Udhas rose to prominence during the 1980s and 1990s, leaving an indelible mark on the ghazal landscape in India.
