ECP Calls Emergency Meeting Amidst Rising Violence in KP and Balochistan. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened a meeting slated for February 1 to address the escalating law and order challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, just eight days before the scheduled national polls.
According to a notification issued by the ECP, the electoral body revealed that the meeting will be attended by the interior minister, interior secretary, chief secretaries of Balochistan and KP, provincial police chiefs, and officials from intelligence agencies.
This development follows swiftly after an independent candidate was fatally shot in KP’s Bajaur district.

Election called off in NA-8 and PK-22 after killing of candidate
The election commission Bajaur has announced that the elections in constituency NA-8 and PK-22 have been cancelled due to the assassination of an independent candidate, Rehan Zeb Khan.
He was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday while campaigning in Sadiqabad Phatak Bazar area.
Rehan Zeb Khan was a former member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but he decided to run as an independent candidate after he was denied a PTI ticket.
He was facing a PTI-backed candidate, Gul Zafar Khan, who was the former member of the National Assembly from NA-8.
Rehan Zeb Khan was a popular leader in Bajaur district. His murder has sparked outrage and condemnation from various political parties and civil society groups. The election commission Bajaur has issued a notification stating that the new dates for the elections will be announced later.
