Two More Polio Cases Reported in KP. The polio cases in Pakistan have risen to a total of ten as two new polio cases have been confirmed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, according to media reports.
The first case was reported from Lakki Marwat district, while the other case was reported from the Bannu district of KPK, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH).
The confirmation was made after laboratory analysis conducted by the NIH in Islamabad. After inclusion of these cases, the total cases in KPK have risen to fice in 2025.
Both the affected are under the age of five, and an investigation has been initiated to trace their vaccination history and the possible source of infection.
Earlier, the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) for Polio has revealed that the Polio virus has been detected in sewage samples in at least 18 districts in Pakistan, according to media reports.
The sample test conducted in mid-April 2025 showed the presence of Wild Poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1) in sewage samples from multiple locations. The latest environmental testing was conducted by NEOC for polio.
The NEOC confirmed the presence of the virus in all four provinces. Positive samples were reported from three districts in Baluchistan, six in Sindh, six in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and two districts of Punjab, and also in Islamabad.
