Pakistan’s first genetic molecular lab inaugurated in Karachi. In a positive move, Pakistan has taken a significant step towards modernizing medical diagnostics with the inauguration of its first genetic molecular laboratory.
Established in collaboration with the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America (APPNA), this state-of-the-art facility is located on the campus of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) in Karachi.
The focus of the lab would be mainly on physical and mental disability diagnosis of premature births, as well as diagnosis of genetic defects in children and adults.
It could do this with modern approaches aimed at the early detection of any genetic disorder. Prof Amjad Siraj Memon, the Vice Chancellor of JSMU, stated that the lab would also be able to determine a child’s genetic makeup and gender from the fluid extracted from the mother.
High-profile attendees at the opening ceremony included APPNA President Dr. Asif Mohiuddin, General Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naeem, and Vice Chancellor of Dow University Prof. Dr. Saeed Qureshi.
Dr. Mohiuddin emphasized on the function of the laboratory, as a means to uncovering any genetic disorder and other possible diseases in babies. He also spoke on the predictive abilities the lab could provide with regard to health issues down the road.
The development is a strong stepping stone towards Pakistan’s health sector that enables a first world diagnosis for its citizens. Pakistan takes an extremely crucial step towards upping its health sector and improving its medical conduct with the launching of this genetic molecular laboratory.
