Blue Area, Jinnah Super Market to Become Car Free Zones. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to turn parts of Blue Area and Jinnah Super Market in Islamabad into car-free zones. The goal is to make these areas pedestrian-friendly by removing cars and adding food stalls and recreational spaces.
In the first phase, a section of Blue Area, from the new parking facility to Khyber Plaza, will become a pedestrian-only street. The new parking plaza, which can hold up to 950 cars, will be ready soon. People will park their cars there and walk to the pedestrian area.
The pedestrian area will cover an 800-meter stretch, with food stalls set up on weekends. Electric carts will also be available to help the elderly and children travel around.
Jinnah Super Market will also get three small pedestrian areas, including a part of Gol Market.
CDA officials have said that the pedestrian tracks will be designed with modern, high-quality pathways. Uniform signs, benches, trash bins, and digital screens will also be added for visitors’ comfort.
CDA officials are working with local traders to ensure they support the project, which is expected to bring more visitors to these areas. The CDA has also asked for improvements to the appearance of the buildings in Blue Area.
Work on the project is expected to start soon.
