All Hiking Trails Closed in Islamabad. In light of security concerns and in anticipation of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced the temporary closure for several hiking trails in Islamabad, here on Sunday.
According to sources, from October 14 to 16, Trails N. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be off-limits to the public to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile event.
The summit will host the 23rd meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government on October 14 and 16, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presiding as the current Chair. Delegations from member states, including China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are set to attend.
Notably, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be participating in his first visit to Pakistan in a decade, marking a significant moment in regional diplomacy.
In total, over 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel will be deployed to ensure the safety of around 900 delegates and to secure various routes and venues in the city. Authorities are taking extensive measures to prevent any disruptions and ensure a successful gathering at the Jinnah Convention Centre.
The CDA has requested the public’s cooperation during this time, advising them to avoid the closed trails to prevent any inconveniences. As Islamabad prepares to welcome esteemed leaders from across the region, the focus remains on maintaining security and fostering positive diplomatic relations.
Metro Bus Service in Islamabad & Rawalpindi Suspended for SCO Summit
The Metro Bus Service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be suspended for four days, from October 14 to 17, to facilitate security for the SCO summit on October 15-16. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will host leaders from China, Russia, and several Central Asian countries.
To maintain order, Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, banning political gatherings and other activities until October 17. Public gatherings are also restricted in five districts: Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu.
Educational institutions in the federal capital will have a public holiday from October 14 to 16. Additionally, marriage halls, restaurants, and cafes in the twin cities will remain closed from October 12 to 16, with strict penalties for violations.
