Federal Govt approves army deployment in Islamabad till October 17. The federal cabinet of Pakistan on Friday approved the deployment of the army in Islamabad till October 17 under Article 245 of the Constitution.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the army troops will assist the district administration in maintaining law and order from October 5 to October 17.
Army has been deployed in the federal capital for the security of VIP delegations, who will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of Government meeting on October 15-16, the notification read.
Earlier, the interior ministry approved the deployment of paramilitary forces including rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Attock ahead of the Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at D-Chowk.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that he was very clear that PTI’s supporters wanted to “inavde” Islamabad.
Talking to journalists at D-Chowk, the interior minister said that everyone has the right to protest but the PTI activists are “coming with weapons to attack”.
“We will not allow anyone to damage property. Yesterday, we requested them not to hold rallies or protests at this time.”

More security personnel deployed to manage situation at D Chowk
The government has ensured additional deployment of police, Rangers and Frontier Corps personnel at the D Chowk in Islamabad as protestors rally towards the city’s crucial location.
Meanwhile, roads leading to the D Chowk have been closed with barbed wire.

After hours-long suspension, cellular services have been partially restored in Rawalpindi on Friday evening.
Ahead of the PTI’s planned rally, mobile networks and internet services had been suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
