TEHRAN: At least 35 people were killed and 15 others seriously injured when a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims crashed in Yazd, Iran.
Maulana Qamar Abbas Naqvi, a member of a peace committee in Larkana, reported that 30 people died at the scene and five later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
However, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported a death toll of 28, with emergency measures imposed at hospitals in the city to treat the injured.
The bus, which had 53 passengers on board, overturned and caught fire near the Taftan-Dehshir checkpoint last night. Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and transported the casualties to the hospital.

Moreover, Maulana Shah Murad Sharifi, a Qom seminary student from Larkana, mentioned that the pilgrims’ convoy included two buses, each carrying about 52 passengers. He noted that aside from five to six people with minor injuries, most of the passengers from the affected bus were in critical condition and receiving treatment at a local government hospital.
