The university has set a fee of Rs 6000 for issuing degrees to students. The new police will reportedly come into effect immediately.
Punjab University has updated its degree fee structure. It has withdrawn its policy of issuing academic degrees free of cost to students as the educational facility is facing difficulties in meeting the expenses. The University has announced the fee schedule for issuing degrees to students after revising the Revenue General Policy. Reports say that the Punjab University administration revised the policy to generate more revenue. The fact remains that the universities are looking for increasing revenue options while they are funded heavily by different government programs. Moreover, there are several funding streams in Higher Education Commission for students of public and private universities. Yet, the additional burden of increasing the degree fee seems against the interests of the students.

The university has set a fee of Rs. 6000 for issuing degrees to students. The new policy will reportedly come into effect immediately. Punjab University is a public research university located in the provincial capital Lahore. It is said to be the oldest and largest public sector university in Pakistan. It offers several departments in different campuses across Lahore and Punjab. Thus, the updated schedule for degree fee at Punjab University speaks of the level of importance these institutions give to students financial challenges. Amid heavy funding from government, they found it better to retrieve some extra millions from students in the form of degree fee.
Independent analysts not only condemn but demand reversal of the decision as per initial reports. However, there is no precedent of lowering fees once it is raised in Pakistan.
