Mushaal Mallick urges global leaders to address Yasin Malik’s deteriorating health in Tihar Jail
ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussain Mullick, wife of the incarcerated Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, has raised urgent concerns over her husband’s rapidly declining health condition while he remains in solitary confinement at Tihar Jail in Delhi. In a heartfelt plea on Sunday, Mushaal called on world leaders and the Indian government to immediately provide necessary medical care to Malik, who is the Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).
Expressing her deep distress, Mushaal revealed that Malik’s body weight has drastically reduced to 65 kilograms in the past two months. She also highlighted that her husband suffers from chronic heart conditions, which have been exacerbated by the lack of adequate medical attention during his imprisonment.
During a recent court hearing, Yasin Malik reportedly tried to alert the judges to his worsening health, but his concerns were allegedly ignored. Mushaal criticized the Indian judiciary for what she perceives as its alignment with government policies rather than impartial justice, particularly in cases involving Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders.
As a former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Human Rights, Mushaal emphasized that international law, including the Geneva Convention, obligates signatory nations to ensure that political prisoners receive proper medical treatment. She lamented the apparent disregard for these obligations, pointing out that the international community, especially those who champion democracy and human rights, has remained silent while India continues to violate these conventions.
