Mushaal Mullick denounces Indian policy allowing non-Kashmiris to settle in IIOJK
ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Women Empowerment, has called on the international community to take urgent notice of the ongoing human rights abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This appeal comes as she commemorates the fifth anniversary of India’s controversial revocation of the region’s special status.
During a recent event at the Punjab Arts Council in Rawalpindi, Mushaal, who is also the Chairperson of the Peace and Cultural Organisation and the wife of detained Kashmiri leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, inaugurated a photo exhibition titled “Kashmiri Atrocities.” The exhibition, part of the Yaum-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir observances, aimed to highlight the severe human rights violations that have occurred since August 5, 2019, when the Indian government abrogated Articles 370 and 35A, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its autonomous status.
In her address, Mushaal emphasized the escalating violence and repression in the region following the revocation. She reported that Indian security forces have killed 907 Kashmiris over the past five years, including 17 women and 30 young boys. Furthermore, she revealed that 223 Kashmiris have died in alleged fake encounters and during police custody, underscoring the severity of the crackdown.

Mushaal also highlighted the recent policy shift allowing non-Kashmiris from other parts of India to acquire property and settle permanently in IIOJK. She condemned this move as a strategic attempt by the Indian government to alter the demographic composition of the region and undermine the local population’s identity and rights.
Joining Mushaal in the protest and exhibition were Sabien Hussein Mullick, Secretary General of the Peace and Cultural Organisation, and Professor Zafar, an advisor on Kashmir Affairs. Together, they voiced their condemnation of the Indian government’s actions and their impact on the Kashmiri people.

Mushaal Hussein Mullick strongly criticized India’s actions since August 5, 2019, asserting that they demonstrate a blatant disregard for international laws and the self-determination aspirations of the Kashmiri people. She called for the international community to uphold the United Nations Security Council resolutions, which guarantee the right of Kashmiris to self-determination, and urged for concrete measures to address the ongoing violations and restore the region’s special status.
The event served as a stark reminder of the continuing plight of Kashmiris under occupation and the pressing need for international intervention to ensure justice and human rights in the region.
