Peshawar: Senate Elections Postponed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Upon Opposition’s Request
Senate Elections postponed in KP. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the Senate elections in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly after a request was submitted by opposition members.
Preparations for the Senate elections were complete in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, with polling staff present. However, the scheduled time for the elections (9 AM) could not be initiated in the assembly.
The request to postpone the elections was submitted by opposition member Ahmed Kareem Kundi to the provincial election commissioner, stating that oaths had not been taken by our 25 members yet, hence the elections should be postponed.
The provincial election commissioner contacted the Chief Election Commissioner upon the opposition’s request.
While, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, has expressed concerns over the repeated violations of the constitution in the country.

Speaking to the media, Ali Amin Gandapur stated that they will not allow oaths to be taken, and they will go to the last extent. He also mentioned that they will protest against the postponement of the Senate elections.”
Senate elections are underway across Pakistan, with polling taking place for 30 seats
In today’s Senate elections, there are 59 contestants competing for seats, while 18 have already been elected unopposed.
Rana Mahmood ul Hassan’s polling agent is Abdul Qadir Patil.
Both Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Abdul Qadir Patil have cast their votes.
Earlier, the National Assembly Hall was converted into a polling station for Senate elections, with ballot papers and electoral materials transported to the National Assembly Hall.
Instructions have been issued to National Assembly members by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the electoral process.
According to the instructions, preferences will be marked on ballot papers via a ballot point. The number ‘1’ will be written in front of the preferred candidate’s name, while ‘2’ will be written in front of the second candidate’s name.
It has been stipulated that preferences must be written only in English or Urdu.
Furthermore, the instructions specify that a combination of Urdu and English will result in the rejection of the vote.
Additionally, placing a digit other than ‘1’ against a candidate’s name or placing more than one digit in front of a name will invalidate the vote.
Instructions also state that no other digit should accompany the number ‘1’ against a candidate’s name.
In Punjab, voting for 5 Senate seats has commenced in the Punjab Assembly.
The first vote was cast by PML-N assembly member Bilal Yamin.
Federal Minister for Finance and Senate hopeful, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, has also arrived at the Punjab Assembly, expressing hope for success in the Senate elections.
Efforts are being made to secure a victory for the ruling coalition in Punjab for women and technocrat seats in the Senate.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, uncertainty looms over whether Senate elections will take place today.
Although preparations for Senate elections are complete in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, polling could not begin at the scheduled time of 9 am.
