Ban imposed on Plastic Bags Usage in Punjab from June 6. In a significant move to combat air pollution, the Punjab government has decided to impose a ban on the usage of plastic bags starting from June 6. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, where it was also decided to digitize the brick industrial system to improve air quality index.
Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized the seriousness of action at the grassroots level to combat smog. A three-month timeline was set for monitoring in the divisional industrial zones of Punjab. Plastic bags will be banned in the province from June 6 on the orders of the Chief Minister.
Senior Minister further stated that everyone has the right to quality of life, and there will be no compromise with those who contribute to air pollution. The meeting also witnessed agreement on signing a cross-border agreement with India on combating smog. A new app will also be introduced to raise awareness about anti-smog initiatives.
