Ishaq Dar out of finance minister race. In a surprising twist, former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar appears to be stepping out of the race for the finance ministry, reportedly due to health issues. Newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is anticipated to assign Dar the portfolio of foreign minister, according to media reports.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is rumored to be considering renowned banker Muhammad Aurangzeb as the next finance minister. Aurangzeb currently serves as the president of HBL and brings over 30 years of rich international banking experience to the table, having held senior management roles, including CEO of JP Morgan’s Global Corporate Bank in Asia.
While the official announcement of the federal cabinet is expected around the time of the presidential election, some potential names and portfolios have already surfaced. Attaullah Tarar is being considered for the information ministry, with former home minister Rana Sanaullah likely to be appointed as an advisor on interior affairs.
Ahsan Iqbal is emerging as a leading candidate for the position of interior minister, while Khawaja Asif is expected to take on the role of defense minister. Anusha Rehman is a possible candidate for the IT ministry, and Sardar Yousaf may be appointed as the minister for religious affairs.
The potential cabinet also includes Hanif Abbasi as the minister for health, Musadik Malik for the petroleum ministry, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry heading the CAD ministry. Other speculated members include Amin ul Haq from MQM-P, Aleem Khan from IPP, Chaudhry Salik Hussain from PML-Q, and PML-N’s Azam Nazir Tarar, Amir Muqam, and Nasir Sidhu, though their portfolios remain unknown.
