Farmers said WTO prevents subsidies and price regulation and small farmers of the country cannot compete in free markets.
Protesting farmers demand India’s exit from WTO. Indian farmers on Monday (February 26) demanded India exit the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as they said its policies were discriminatory against growers.
Protesters burnt effigies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and WTO in protest of capitalistic policies which deny the rights of farmers, the farmers added.
The effigy also displayed posters of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and the chief minister of northern Haryana state, whose police force is using force against them to restrain them from marching to New Delhi.
“The policies of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) are dangerous for the Indian agricultural sector,” said protesting farmer Sukhjeet Singh.
