Pakistani Youth Show Strong Preference for Staying in Homeland Despite Economic Challenges. A recent survey conducted by Voice of America Youth Survey has unveiled a heartening trend among Pakistani youth, revealing that a significant majority prefer to remain in their homeland despite the prevailing economic challenges. The survey, which targeted individuals between the ages of 18 to 34, showcased a resounding affirmation of loyalty to Pakistan, with three-quarters expressing their reluctance to migrate abroad.
Contrary to common assumptions, only 23% of respondents from the 18 to 24 age group, primarily seeking enhanced employment opportunities, expressed an interest in relocating to foreign countries. This group, comprising university students and fresh graduates, cited aspirations for higher education as their primary motivation for considering overseas studies. Similarly, employed individuals aimed at improving their quality of life rather than seeking migration.
Urban areas displayed a slightly higher inclination towards migration, with 29% of youth expressing an interest compared to 18% in rural areas. However, the survey revealed a striking preference among respondents for Saudi Arabia over Western countries like Europe or the United States. Forty-one percent of respondents prioritized Saudi Arabia, citing common religious affiliation and promising employment prospects as key factors.
Canada emerged as the second preferred destination, highlighting the perceived attractiveness of job opportunities, education, and quality of life offered by countries like Australia and Canada. Notably, only a mere four percent of respondents expressed a desire to migrate to the United States.
Balochistan stood out with the lowest number of youths considering migration, indicating a strong sense of attachment to their homeland among the province’s youth.

Commenting on the survey findings, Noman Chatha, CEO of NC Solicitors, attributed the preference for Saudi Arabia to shared religious ties and promising employment prospects. He noted that while Western countries like Australia and Canada are perceived as offering better opportunities, cultural and religious factors may deter some from considering them as migration destinations.
Overall, the survey underscores the deep-rooted loyalty and sense of belonging among Pakistani youth towards their homeland, highlighting their resilience and determination to contribute to the nation’s progress and development amidst economic challenges.
