In a move aimed at enhancing motorists’ convenience and ensuring smooth traffic flow on motorways, the National Highway and Motorway Authority (NHMA) has announced the mandatory requirement of M-Tag registration for all vehicles accessing motorways from February 5.

The decision, outlined in a recent statement, aims to streamline the entrance and exit points of Pakistan’s extensive motorway network, encompassing key routes such as the Peshawar-Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M1), Pindi Bhattian-Multan Motorway (M4), Hakla-D.I. Khan Motorway (M14), Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5), and Hassanabdal-Mansehra Expressway (E35).

To obtain an M-Tag, motorists are required to visit the customer care center with their vehicle registration book/card and CNIC. After February 5, vehicles without an M-Tag will not be permitted entry onto the motorways, as emphasized by the NHMA statement.

In response to this new regulation, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) and the NHA have issued important advisories to motorists. Firstly, drivers are urged to ensure the successful completion of their M-Tag registration process to avoid penalties.

Moreover, as part of safety measures during adverse weather conditions, motorists are strongly encouraged to use fog lights when driving through dense fog. Additionally, individuals are advised to limit their motorway travel to essential trips, particularly during periods of reduced visibility due to fog.

The implementation of M-Tag registration is expected to enhance efficiency and safety on Pakistan’s motorways, contributing to a better overall driving experience for commuters.
