Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Special Secretary, Dr. Syed Asif Hussain, has refuted allegations by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that it is not being provided a level playing field in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 8. In response to the PTI’s petition demanding contempt of court proceedings against key officials, including the ECP secretary, Hussain urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the contempt petition, emphasizing that the commission has addressed PTI’s grievances and ensured equal opportunities for all parties and candidates. The ECP highlighted that it had taken prompt actions on the PTI’s complaints and provided data to counter the allegations, indicating a 76.18% acceptance rate for PTI candidates’ nomination papers. The response comes amid concerns raised by major political entities regarding the fairness of the electoral process.
