Supreme Court asserts: Won’t allow anyone to delay or derail elections. In a decisive move, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has rejected another petition challenging the delimitations conducted by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, the acting chief justice, questioned the petitioner’s intentions, asking if they did not desire political stability in Pakistan. This decision follows the court’s recent ruling that upheld the powers granted to the ECP, overturning the Balochistan High Court’s judgment on the delimitation of two provincial assembly constituencies.
During the three-member bench hearing, Justice Masood emphasized that the announcement of the election date, set for February 8, was a significant step contributing to political stability. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asserted that they would not disrupt the election schedule for individual petitions and clarified that any delay in elections would not be permitted.
Justice Athar Minallah echoed the sentiment, stating firmly that there should be no delay in elections, and the court would not allow any attempts to derail the electoral process. The swift actions of the Supreme Court in recent days have thwarted organized efforts to delay the upcoming general elections. The court has reinforced the autonomy and power of the ECP, ensuring its immunity from external influences.
