Suella Braverman sacked as UK Home Secretary. UK Prime Minster Rishi Sunak has sacked the country’s Home Secretary Suella Braverman as he announced the reshuffling of his cabinet on Monday, Sky News reported.
According to Sky News, Braverman penned a newspaper article last week criticising the way the Metropolitan Police handled a contentious Armistice Day pro-Palestinian march.
Following accusations that Braverman was weakening public trust in the police and their operational independence, pressure mounted on the prime minister to take action.
Braverman’s remarks have drawn criticism from both opposition parties and several Tory MPs, who referred to them as “offensive” and “inflammatory”.
Braverman had accused the police of “playing favourites” in a Times article, claiming that they treat left-wing protestors more leniently than their right-wing counterparts during contentious demonstrations.
