PESHAWAR: National Team Wicketkeeper-Batsman Mohammad Rizwan Responds to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s Comment on “Surgery” in the Team
Speaking to the media on World Sports Journalists Day, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan addressed PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s recent comments about “surgery” in the national team. Rizwan emphasized that failures in cricket cannot be attributed solely to deficiencies in bowling, batting, or fielding. He pointed out that every World Cup and tournament is followed by a thorough review of the team’s performance. Just as surgery is necessary when someone is ill, the concept of making significant changes in the team is not new. Reviews lead to decisions aimed at improvement.
The wicketkeeper-batsman acknowledged the disappointment of the nation, stating that the pain is felt deeply by those who had high hopes. However, upon returning home, the team was touched by the love and support of the fans.
Rizwan mentioned that the players are currently preparing for the Test series against Bangladesh, with a training camp underway in Karachi. He noted that when a team loses, it’s not due to a single reason, but rather multiple weaknesses. He accepted the criticism directed at the team, admitting that they deserve it and acknowledging that not all criticism is unfounded.
